3 new competitions running in parallel with the Grand Prix, using same Race Calendar:
The Race Time Predictor Challenge (RTP)
We haven’t invented this. Beckenham RC use it for their GP.
It takes into account change in running form over time, so it is a great representation of your current abilities. You race against yourself rather than club mates.
We are very confident that while initially a bit complex, this will be fun – and it offers everyone a chance to win!
It is less complicated than the KFL points scoring!
- We take your 3 most recent GP event races of any distance and scale them to the equivalent of an easy 10K. We then take an average of these times to generate your average easy 10K time. This will be updated with your most recent GP time each month.
- This average will then be used to calculate a personal prediction for each GP event (scaled for each course distance and difficulty).
- For each GP event you enter, you will be allocated a base score of 15 points. For every 1% that your actual time differs from your personal predicted time, you will have 1 point added or deducted, up to a maximum of 5% (5 points). Therefore, your minimum score for each race would be 10 points and your maximum would be 20 points.
- New members and/or those not having completed 3 recent previous races (for example, due to injury or break from running) will be awarded 15 points for their first race and the first race time will be used to generate the predicted time for the next race.
- Your overall score for 2024 is the sum of your 7 best scores during the year
A Club Championship
One race each year will be The Club Championship. The leading male and female ERC finishers will be awarded Club Champion. This could be the same race each year, or a different race, based on feedback. In 2024 it will the Darent Valley 10k.
A Club Omnium
Derived from track cycling, and drawing from Heptathlon and Decathlon, this is a competition that comprises one race of each of the 5 “usual” distances – 5k, 5m, 10k, 10m and Half Marathon. The Race Calendar features at least one race of each distance. The Omnium table will be based on your best times at each race distance. Leading male and female runners get the trophies.Proposed Race Calendar 2024 – to be confirmed
